    Arbitrary File Upload

@payloadcms/storage-s3 is a Payload storage adapter for Amazon S3

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Arbitrary File Upload via insufficient validation of upload identity and MIME type in the upload handling pipeline, specifically in generateFileData and related file-type detection logic. An authenticated attacker can upload a file with a manipulated MIME type or filename that misrepresents its true content type - for example, delivering XML or SVG content under a non-XML MIME type - causing the server to serve the file without the appropriate Content-Security-Policy restrictions. This allows the attacker to execute scripts in the context of a victim user's browser when the file is subsequently accessed.

How to fix Arbitrary File Upload?

Upgrade @payloadcms/storage-s3 to version 3.90.0, 4.0.0-canary.34 or higher.

    Cross-site Scripting (XSS)

@payloadcms/storage-s3 is a Payload storage adapter for Amazon S3

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Cross-site Scripting (XSS) via insufficient validation of upload file identity and XML/SVG content delivery in the uploads pipeline. An authenticated attacker can upload a file with a manipulated MIME type or filename that causes the server to serve XML-family content (including SVG) without adequate Content-Security-Policy controls or server-side type validation, enabling script execution in the context of a victim's browser when the file is viewed.

How to fix Cross-site Scripting (XSS)?

Upgrade @payloadcms/storage-s3 to version 3.90.0, 4.0.0-canary.34 or higher.

    Directory Traversal

@payloadcms/storage-s3 is a Payload storage adapter for Amazon S3

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Directory Traversal via insufficient sanitization of filenames in the client-upload signed-URL endpoints for S3, GCS, Azure, and R2. An attacker can escape the intended storage location by submitting specially crafted filenames.

    How to fix Directory Traversal?

Upgrade @payloadcms/storage-s3 to version 3.78.0 or higher.
