    Cross-site Scripting (XSS)

    invenio-communities is a module that adds support for communities.

    Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Cross-site Scripting (XSS) within certain React components related to community members in the module. This can potentially allow the attacker to access personal information, such as cookies, of the visiting user.

    Notes:

    1. This vulnerability enables a user to inject a script tag into the Affiliations field during the account registration process.

    2. The malicious script is executed when the user creates a new community and is listed as a public member.

    3. The script is triggered whenever any user visits the Members section of any community that includes the compromised user.

    How to fix Cross-site Scripting (XSS)?

    Upgrade invenio-communities to version 2.8.11, 4.2.2, 7.8.0 or higher.
