    patool is a portable archive file manager

    Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Directory Traversal in the safe_extract function in patoolib/programs/py_tarfile.py when running on Python versions before 3.12, due to the use of os.path.commonprefix() for character-level string comparison instead of path-level comparison. An attacker can write arbitrary files outside the intended extraction directory by supplying a malicious archive with specially crafted member paths.
