CVE-2026-5172  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade Alpine:3.24 dnsmasq to version 2.92_p2-r0 or higher.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream dnsmasq package and not the dnsmasq package as distributed by Alpine. See How to fix? for Alpine:3.24 relevant fixed versions and status.

A buffer overflow in dnsmasq’s extract_addresses() function allows an attacker to trigger a heap out-of-bounds read and crash by exploiting a malformed DNS response, enabling extract_name() to advance the pointer past the record’s end.
