CWE-476  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade Centos:6 kernel-firmware to version 0:2.6.32-71.24.1.el6 or higher.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream kernel-firmware package and not the kernel-firmware package as distributed by Centos. See How to fix? for Centos:6 relevant fixed versions and status.

The install_special_mapping function in mm/mmap.c in the Linux kernel before 2.6.37-rc6 does not make an expected security_file_mmap function call, which allows local users to bypass intended mmap_min_addr restrictions and possibly conduct NULL pointer dereference attacks via a crafted assembly-language application.
