CWE-79  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade Debian:12 awstats to version 6.7.dfsg-5.1 or higher.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream awstats package and not the awstats package as distributed by Debian. See How to fix? for Debian:12 relevant fixed versions and status.

awstats.pl in AWStats 6.8 and earlier does not properly remove quote characters, which allows remote attackers to conduct cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks via the query_string parameter. NOTE: this issue exists because of an incomplete fix for CVE-2008-3714.
