NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream needrestart package and not the needrestart package as distributed by Debian. See How to fix? for Debian:14 relevant fixed versions and status.

Qualys discovered that needrestart, before version 3.8, allows local attackers to execute arbitrary code as root by tricking needrestart into running the Python interpreter with an attacker-controlled PYTHONPATH environment variable.
