Amendment

Overview

github.com/minio/minio/cmd is an open source object storage server compatible with Amazon S3 APIs.

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Improper Authentication via the PutObjectHandler and PutObjectPartHandler functions. An attacker can gain unauthorized write access to arbitrary objects in any bucket by supplying only a valid access key through the query string and omitting the Authorization header, thereby bypassing signature verification. This allows the attacker to impersonate any user with WRITE permissions and upload objects without possessing the secret key or a valid cryptographic signature.

Workaround

This vulnerability can be mitigated by blocking unsigned-trailer requests at the load balancer, rejecting any request containing X-Amz-Content-Sha256: STREAMING-UNSIGNED-PAYLOAD-TRAILER at the reverse proxy or WAF layer, using the signed variant for clients, or restricting WRITE permissions to trusted principals.
