CWE-20  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

This issue was patched in ELSA-2016-1292.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream libxml2-python package and not the libxml2-python package as distributed by Oracle. See How to fix? for Oracle:6 relevant fixed versions and status.

The (1) xmlParserEntityCheck and (2) xmlParseAttValueComplex functions in parser.c in libxml2 2.9.3 do not properly keep track of the recursion depth, which allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (stack consumption and application crash) via a crafted XML document containing a large number of nested entity references.
