CWE-78  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade Oracle:8 ctags to version 0:5.8-23.el8 or higher.
This issue was patched in ELSA-2023-2863.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream ctags package and not the ctags package as distributed by Oracle. See How to fix? for Oracle:8 relevant fixed versions and status.

A flaw was found in Exuberant Ctags in the way it handles the "-o" option. This option specifies the tag filename. A crafted tag filename specified in the command line or in the configuration file results in arbitrary command execution because the externalSortTags() in sort.c calls the system(3) function in an unsafe way.
