CWE-276  (opens in a new tab)

Amendment

This was deemed not a vulnerability.

Overview

ansible is a simple IT automation system.

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Incorrect Default Permissions via excessive group-writable permissions on the /etc/passwd file during the build process. An attacker can gain full root privileges within the container by modifying the /etc/passwd file if they have command execution capabilities and are a member of the root group. This is only exploitable if multiple processes are packaged inside a single container and the attacker is a member of the root group within the container.

Note:

This issue affects Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, not the OSS "ansible" package.
