CWE-863  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade RHEL:6 kernel-firmware to version 0:2.6.32-220.4.1.el6 or higher.
This issue was patched in RHSA-2012:0052.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream kernel-firmware package and not the kernel-firmware package as distributed by RHEL. See How to fix? for RHEL:6 relevant fixed versions and status.

The mem_write function in the Linux kernel before 3.2.2, when ASLR is disabled, does not properly check permissions when writing to /proc/<pid>/mem, which allows local users to gain privileges by modifying process memory, as demonstrated by Mempodipper.
