CVE-2011-1154  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-20  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade RHEL:6 logrotate to version 0:3.7.8-12.el6_0.1 or higher.
This issue was patched in RHSA-2011:0407.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream logrotate package and not the logrotate package as distributed by RHEL. See How to fix? for RHEL:6 relevant fixed versions and status.

The shred_file function in logrotate.c in logrotate 3.7.9 and earlier might allow context-dependent attackers to execute arbitrary commands via shell metacharacters in a log filename, as demonstrated by a filename that is automatically constructed on the basis of a hostname or virtual machine name.
