CVE-2010-3316  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade RHEL:6 pam to version 0:1.1.1-4.el6_0.1 or higher.
This issue was patched in RHSA-2010:0891.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream pam package and not the pam package as distributed by RHEL. See How to fix? for RHEL:6 relevant fixed versions and status.

The run_coprocess function in pam_xauth.c in the pam_xauth module in Linux-PAM (aka pam) before 1.1.2 does not check the return values of the setuid, setgid, and setgroups system calls, which might allow local users to read arbitrary files by executing a program that relies on the pam_xauth PAM check.
