CWE-476  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade RHEL:6 perf to version 0:2.6.32-504.16.2.el6 or higher.
This issue was patched in RHSA-2015:0864.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream perf package and not the perf package as distributed by RHEL. See How to fix? for RHEL:6 relevant fixed versions and status.

kernel/trace/trace_syscalls.c in the Linux kernel through 3.17.2 does not properly handle private syscall numbers during use of the ftrace subsystem, which allows local users to gain privileges or cause a denial of service (invalid pointer dereference) via a crafted application.
