CWE-400  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade RHEL:7 libxml2-static to version 0:2.9.1-5.el7_0.1 or higher.
This issue was patched in RHSA-2014:1655.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream libxml2-static package and not the libxml2-static package as distributed by RHEL. See How to fix? for RHEL:7 relevant fixed versions and status.

parser.c in libxml2 before 2.9.2 does not properly prevent entity expansion even when entity substitution has been disabled, which allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (CPU consumption) via a crafted XML document containing a large number of nested entity references, a variant of the "billion laughs" attack.
