CWE-77  (opens in a new tab)

This issue was patched in RHSA-2018:0585.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream rh-ruby23-rubygem-test-unit package and not the rh-ruby23-rubygem-test-unit package as distributed by RHEL. See How to fix? for RHEL:7 relevant fixed versions and status.

The lazy_initialize function in lib/resolv.rb in Ruby through 2.4.3 uses Kernel#open, which might allow Command Injection attacks, as demonstrated by a Resolv::Hosts::new argument beginning with a '|' character, a different vulnerability than CVE-2017-17405. NOTE: situations with untrusted input may be highly unlikely.
