CWE-284  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade RHEL:8 bpftrace to version 0:0.16.0-6.el8_10 or higher.
This issue was patched in RHSA-2024:8830.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream bpftrace package and not the bpftrace package as distributed by RHEL. See How to fix? for RHEL:8 relevant fixed versions and status.

If kernel headers need to be extracted, bpftrace will attempt to load them from a temporary directory. An unprivileged attacker could use this to force bcc to load compromised linux headers. Linux distributions which provide kernel headers by default are not affected by default.
