NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream eclipse:rhel8/apache-commons-compress package and not the eclipse:rhel8/apache-commons-compress package as distributed by RHEL. See How to fix? for RHEL:8 relevant fixed versions and status.

When reading a specially crafted TAR archive, Compress can be made to allocate large amounts of memory that finally leads to an out of memory error even for very small inputs. This could be used to mount a denial of service attack against services that use Compress' tar package.
