CWE-122  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade RHEL:8 elfutils to version 0:0.176-5.el8 or higher.
This issue was patched in RHSA-2019:3575.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream elfutils package and not the elfutils package as distributed by RHEL. See How to fix? for RHEL:8 relevant fixed versions and status.

In elfutils 0.175, a heap-based buffer over-read was discovered in the function elf32_xlatetom in elf32_xlatetom.c in libelf. A crafted ELF input can cause a segmentation fault leading to denial of service (program crash) because ebl_core_note does not reject malformed core file notes.
