CVE-2024-22365  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-277  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade RHEL:8 pam to version 0:1.3.1-33.el8 or higher.
This issue was patched in RHSA-2024:3163.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream pam package and not the pam package as distributed by RHEL. See How to fix? for RHEL:8 relevant fixed versions and status.

linux-pam (aka Linux PAM) before 1.6.0 allows attackers to cause a denial of service (blocked login process) via mkfifo because the openat call (for protect_dir) lacks O_DIRECTORY.
