CVE-2024-35823  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade RHEL:8 perf to version 0:4.18.0-372.121.1.el8_6 or higher.
This issue was patched in RHSA-2024:6297.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream perf package and not the perf package as distributed by RHEL. See How to fix? for RHEL:8 relevant fixed versions and status.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

vt: fix unicode buffer corruption when deleting characters

This is the same issue that was fixed for the VGA text buffer in commit 39cdb68c64d8 ("vt: fix memory overlapping when deleting chars in the buffer"). The cure is also the same i.e. replace memcpy() with memmove() due to the overlaping buffers.
