CWE-20  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade Ubuntu:12.04 chkrootkit to version 0.49-4ubuntu1.1 or higher.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream chkrootkit package and not the chkrootkit package as distributed by Ubuntu. See How to fix? for Ubuntu:12.04 relevant fixed versions and status.

The slapper function in chkrootkit before 0.50 does not properly quote file paths, which allows local users to execute arbitrary code via a Trojan horse executable. NOTE: this is only a vulnerability when /tmp is not mounted with the noexec option.
