CWE-59  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade Alpine:3.21 w3m to version 0.5.3.20180125-r0 or higher.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream w3m package and not the w3m package as distributed by Alpine. See How to fix? for Alpine:3.21 relevant fixed versions and status.

w3m through 0.5.3 does not properly handle temporary files when the ~/.w3m directory is unwritable, which allows a local attacker to craft a symlink attack to overwrite arbitrary files.
