CWE-532  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade Alpine:3.23 cloud-init to version 21.1-r1 or higher.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream cloud-init package and not the cloud-init package as distributed by Alpine. See How to fix? for Alpine:3.23 relevant fixed versions and status.

When instructing cloud-init to set a random password for a new user account, versions before 21.2 would write that password to the world-readable log file /var/log/cloud-init-output.log. This could allow a local user to log in as another user.
