Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling in the server_work() function. An attacker can exhaust system memory and file descriptors even when CLIENTS_MAX is defined by establishing numerous local connections, leading to increased system load and preventing resolution of local network names.
Note:
This is only exploitable if an unprivileged local user can access the /run/avahi-daemon/socket unix socket.
This vulnerability can be mitigated by changing the permissions of the unix socket after the daemon is started or by applying additional access restrictions such as SELinux to limit access to the socket.
