CWE-617  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

A fix was pushed into the master branch but not yet published.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Reachable Assertion in the readelf process when parsing a specially crafted ELF binary containing malformed DWARF abbrev or debug information. An attacker can cause the application to abort and crash by convincing a user to process a malicious file with the readelf program. This is only exploitable if a user processes an untrusted ELF binary with readelf.

Workaround

This vulnerability can be mitigated by not processing untrusted, unverified, or externally supplied ELF binaries with the readelf program.
