Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Heap-based Buffer Overflow through the VobSub subtitle demuxer in libavformat/mpeg.c’s vobsub_read_header() and ff_subtitles_queue_insert(). An attacker can corrupt adjacent heap memory by supplying a malicious .sub/.idx subtitle file that declares more distinct stream IDs than the fixed-size vobsub->q[] array can hold. When the demuxer creates subtitle entries using vobsub->q[s->nb_streams - 1], it can write past the queue bounds as the stream count grows beyond the array size. This can crash applications using FFmpeg to parse VobSub subtitles and can be leveraged for arbitrary code execution.
