Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Stack-based Buffer Overflow in the openssl_verify_callback process during a DTLS handshake. An attacker can cause a process crash and disrupt service availability by sending a certificate with an oversized Subject Distinguished Name that exceeds the fixed-size stack buffer, leading to a stack buffer overflow.
This vulnerability can be mitigated by removing the DTLS plugin shared object from the GStreamer plugins directory if WebRTC/DTLS functionality is not required, restricting network access to WebRTC/DTLS endpoints to trusted peers only via firewall rules, or deploying GStreamer WebRTC services behind a reverse proxy or media server that validates DTLS certificates before forwarding.
