Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to UNIX Symbolic Link (Symlink) Following via the pg_basebackup or pg_rewind process. An attacker can overwrite arbitrary files on the local system by leveraging symlink following, potentially hijacking the operating system account. This is only exploitable if relevant actions, such as moving or snapshotting the virtual machine, are performed between running these commands and starting the server.
