CVE-2025-15661  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-125  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

A fix was pushed into the master branch but not yet published.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Out-of-bounds Read via the sftp_symlink function. An attacker can cause the application to crash or disclose sensitive heap memory by sending a specially crafted SFTP response from a malicious SSH server or through a man-in-the-middle position.

Workaround

This vulnerability can be mitigated by implementing strict network egress filtering to allow outbound SSH/SFTP traffic only to known, trusted endpoints. Additionally, enforce strict SSH host key checking in client applications to reject unknown servers and prevent man-in-the-middle attacks.
