Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Incorrect Implementation of Authentication Algorithm due to improper validation in the SCRAM authentication process. An attacker can intercept authentication handshakes and obtain the client proof by injecting a crafted server-first-message with a controlled salt and low iteration count, enabling offline password cracking. This is only exploitable if an attacker is able to perform a man-in-the-middle attack and TLS is not enforced.
