How to fix?

A fix was pushed into the master branch but not yet published.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Improper Validation of Certificate with Host Mismatch the checkServerIdentity function in lib/tls.js. An attacker can cause a TLS client to accept a certificate that does not identify the connected peer by supplying a non-canonical numeric hostname, such as 127.1 or 0127.0.0.1, that domainToASCII() normalizes to an IP address while the platform resolver interprets it as a different address. This can enable server impersonation and expose or allow alteration of TLS traffic.

Notes

  • At certificate matching, the bypass requires the certificate to contain an IP SAN matching the normalized address; a DNS SAN or CN alone does not satisfy this IP-address match.
