How to fix?

A fix was pushed into the master branch but not yet published.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Improper Certificate Validation in OSSL_CMP_get1_rootCaKeyUpdate(). An attacker with credentials that satisfy the CMP message protection checks, such as a Registration Authority, can replace the root CA certificate held by affected CMP clients with an arbitrary one, escalating from RA level to root CA level. The attacker can generate a new key pair and present a self-signed certificate in its "id-it-rootCaKeyUpdate" messages, which is accepted as a new trust anchor.
