Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling through ossl_cmp_msg_check_update in crypto/cmp/cmp_vfy.c. An attacker can drive unbounded memory growth by repeatedly sending CMP messages with unique extraCerts that are rejected during message validation. When OSSL_CMP_CTX is reused for a long-lived CMP server, the rejected message’s extra certificates remain cached in ctx->untrusted, so the server keeps accumulating certificate objects indefinitely. This can exhaust memory and cause OOM conditions, disrupting CMP service for legitimate clients.
