How to fix?

Upgrade openssl to version 3.4.8, 3.5.9, 3.6.5, 4.0.3 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling in the X.509 extension caching of CRL distribution points, which expands each nameRelativeToCRLIssuer entry into heap structures disproportionate to its encoded size. An attacker can force allocation of hundreds of megabytes by presenting a certificate carrying many relative CRL distribution points. This requires the application to verify an attacker supplied certificate, and the certificate stays under the roughly 100 KiB peer limit, so size based admission control does not reject it.
