CWE-20  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade Debian:11 fetchmail to version 6.1.0-1 or higher.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream fetchmail package and not the fetchmail package as distributed by Debian. See How to fix? for Debian:11 relevant fixed versions and status.

The getmxrecord function in Fetchmail 6.0.0 and earlier does not properly check the boundary of a particular malformed DNS packet from a malicious DNS server, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) when Fetchmail attempts to read data beyond the expected boundary.
