CVE-2000-1221  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade Debian:11 lpr to version 1:0.48-1 or higher.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream lpr package and not the lpr package as distributed by Debian. See How to fix? for Debian:11 relevant fixed versions and status.

The line printer daemon (lpd) in the lpr package in multiple Linux operating systems authenticates by comparing the reverse-resolved hostname of the local machine to the hostname of the print server as returned by gethostname, which allows remote attackers to bypass intended access controls by modifying the DNS for the attacking IP.
