CWE-189  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade Debian:12 libtar to version 1.2.20-1 or higher.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream libtar package and not the libtar package as distributed by Debian. See How to fix? for Debian:12 relevant fixed versions and status.

Multiple integer overflows in the th_read function in lib/block.c in libtar before 1.2.20 allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via a long (1) name or (2) link in an archive, which triggers a heap-based buffer overflow.
