CWE-20  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade Debian:13 logrotate to version 3.8.0-1 or higher.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream logrotate package and not the logrotate package as distributed by Debian. See How to fix? for Debian:13 relevant fixed versions and status.

The shred_file function in logrotate.c in logrotate 3.7.9 and earlier might allow context-dependent attackers to execute arbitrary commands via shell metacharacters in a log filename, as demonstrated by a filename that is automatically constructed on the basis of a hostname or virtual machine name.
