CVE-2020-7040  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-59  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade Debian:14 storebackup to version 3.2.1-2 or higher.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream storebackup package and not the storebackup package as distributed by Debian. See How to fix? for Debian:14 relevant fixed versions and status.

storeBackup.pl in storeBackup through 3.5 relies on the /tmp/storeBackup.lock pathname, which allows symlink attacks that possibly lead to privilege escalation. (Local users can also create a plain file named /tmp/storeBackup.lock to block use of storeBackup until an admin manually deletes that file.)
