CWE-20  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade Debian:9 wireshark to version 1.12.8+g5b6e543-1 or higher.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream wireshark package and not the wireshark package as distributed by Debian. See How to fix? for Debian:9 relevant fixed versions and status.

The pcapng_read_if_descr_block function in wiretap/pcapng.c in the pcapng parser in Wireshark 1.12.x before 1.12.8 uses too many levels of pointer indirection, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (incorrect free and application crash) via a crafted packet that triggers interface-filter copying.
