CWE-125  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade Debian:unstable binutils to version 2.27.51.20161212-1 or higher.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream binutils package and not the binutils package as distributed by Debian. See How to fix? for Debian:unstable relevant fixed versions and status.

The Binary File Descriptor (BFD) library (aka libbfd), as distributed in GNU Binutils 2.28, is vulnerable to an invalid read (of size 4) because of missing a check (in the find_link function) for null headers before attempting to match them. This vulnerability causes Binutils utilities like strip to crash.
