How to fix?

Upgrade github.com/cilium/cilium/bugtool/cmd to version 1.17.15, 1.18.9, 1.19.3 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Cleartext Storage of Sensitive Information in the form of all state directory files, including the WireGuard private key file, being included in archives by default. The runTool() function does not remove this file before archiving. Using the private key, an attacker can decrypt WireGuard-encrypted traffic to and from the affected node, impersonate the node in the WireGuard mesh or intercept pod-to-pod encrypted traffic.

Note: This is only exploitable if the debug tool is run on nodes where WireGuard Transparent Encryption is active and the resulting archives are shared or accessed by unauthorized parties.

Note: If a bugtool or sysdump archive from a WireGuard-enabled node has previously been shared with an untrusted party, keys should be rotated after the tool is upgraded to a safe version.
