CVE-2026-53492  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-863  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade github.com/containerd/containerd/v2/contrib/checkpoint to version 2.1.9, 2.2.5, 2.3.2 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Incorrect Authorization during the CRI checkpoint restore. An attacker can gain unauthorized access to resources by injecting arbitrary Container Device Interface (CDI) annotations into checkpoint image metadata, which are then trusted and applied during container restore. This is only exploitable if CDI is enabled on the node and a matching host CDI specification exists for the requested device.
