Overview

github.com/containers/podman/v4/libpod is a tool for managing containers and images, volumes mounted into those containers, and pods made from groups of containers. Podman is based on libpod, a library for container lifecycle management that is also contained in this repository. The libpod library provides APIs for managing containers, pods, container images, and volumes.

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Symlink Attack via the WORKDIR process. An attacker can create arbitrary directories or modify ownership on the host filesystem by supplying a malicious container image with a symlink in the working directory path, potentially triggering a race condition if an untrusted process mutates the host filesystem during dereferencing.
