CWE-73  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade github.com/entireio/cli/cmd/entire/cli to version 0.7.7 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to External Control of File Name or Path via the SessionID field used in constructing filesystem paths during the restore process. An attacker can overwrite arbitrary files on the victim's machine by crafting malicious checkpoint metadata containing absolute paths or path traversal sequences and pushing it to the checkpoints repository. This is only exploitable if the attacker has push access to the entire/checkpoints/v1 branch in the repository.

Workaround

This vulnerability can be mitigated by restricting push access to the checkpoints repository, avoiding the use of resume or rewind commands on repositories with untrusted contributors, inspecting checkpoint metadata for suspicious entries, and protecting sensitive user-writable files.
