Overview

io.vertx:vertx-web is a HTTP web applications for Vert.x.

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Incorrect Authorization in the postAuthentication method of ChainAuthHandler, which depends on internal state set only during the authenticate phase, so when a preceding handler has already authenticated the user on the routing context and that phase is skipped, any() mode falls through without delegating the check to any handler and all() mode skips it outright. A user holding a valid token with insufficient scopes can reach resources guarded by scope requirements configured through withScope or withScopes by requesting them over a route where an earlier handler performed the authentication. This requires a chain containing a scope-requiring handler such as JWTAuthHandler or OAuth2AuthHandler, and the condition arises most readily with overlapping handlers on nested routes, where a parent route authenticates broadly and a child route chains to enforce specific scopes.
