CWE-409  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade io.vertx:vertx-grpc-server to version 4.5.35, 5.1.10, 5.2.1 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Improper Handling of Highly Compressed Data (Data Amplification) via the gzip-decoding path in GrpcReadStreamBase used by GrpcServerRequestImpl. An attacker can send a small gzip-compressed gRPC request that expands beyond the configured per-message maximum; because the limit applies to the received compressed bytes, the server allocates excessive memory while decompressing the request, disrupting service.
