How to fix?

Upgrade org.apache.sshd:sshd-sftp to version 2.20.0, 3.0.0-M6 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling via the SFTP v6 check-file-name/check-file-handle extension in AbstractSftpSubsystemHelper. An attacker can exhaust server memory and take down the SFTP server by requesting hashes for a huge (possibly sparse) file with a very small block size, causing the server to accumulate an excessive number of hashes in the reply buffer.

Notes

  • Reaching the server-side hash processing requires an authenticated SFTP user with low privileges
